This year's Spring Fair will promise to have something good for everyone.
We have heard from many quarters in the past, that what you all want most,
is to mingle with other home-schoolers, chat to and make new friends, and
to view as many curricula as possible. This year will be as social a gathering
as we can possibly make it!
Cost: Non-members of the Western Cape Home School Association: R30.00 per family. Paid-up members are FREE, so please make sure you are a paid-up member by this event! Should you wish to pay your subscription at the door, you will still get in for FREE. New members are very welcome to do the same. We will be starting off at 10.00 a.m. as usual, with organized games for the children starting at 10.30 a.m. until 12.30 p.m. During this time we will have a welcome and short talk by Leendert van Oostrum titled "The famous case of BB versus BB - and the two faces of home schooling (with apologies to Mary Pride)". We will also be showing you certificates that will be available for the end of year prize giving, and notifying you of the venue and date for this occasion. At 11:00 Leendert will give a side show talk on the topic "Coming out of the closet - home schooling on the right side of the law" to those who are interested. Lunch will follow, from 12.30 until 1.30 p.m. after which there will be free time to mingle and socialize, with plenty of time to view vendors wares. Free tea and coffee will be available throughout the day, as well as food and cold drinks being on sale. In the afternoon, Leendert will give a 3-hour workshop entitled "How children REALLY learn WHEN they learn - how bureaucratic interference can poison learning in school and at home". A summary of the topic would read: Parents experiment with their own learning to identify the essential elements of the learning process. Why home schooling works so well for almost everyone. Implications for selecting curriculum for individual children. Why unnecessary government interference is contrary to the interest of your child. Please take note that the workshop is not part of the main programme and that separate registration is required for it. The price of the workshop is R60 per family. Members of the WCHSA will pay only R20 and members of the Pestalozzi Trust will enter free. We are making sure that we have as many vendors (curricula as well as other educational material) as we possibly can. There is no closing time set, as you are, of course, free to go at any time once you feel you have seen and heard everything you came there for! Important!
We look forward to seeing you, and to being of service to make your
day as productive and enjoyable as possible. Please see map insert if you
do not know how to get there.
