4th ANNUAL KZN HOME EDUCATION FAIR
Come and learn more about and ask your questions on home schooling!
Home Schooling is evoking tremendous interest throughout the country
- so much so that a major conference has
been arranged in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Organised by the Kwa-Zulu Natal Homeschooling Association for Saturday, October 23. Three workshop tracks will run simultaneously, there is also a hall dedicated to curriculum and resource suppliers, who are coming from Cape Town, Pretoria, Howick, and locally of course. It promises to be a well attended, with several hundred attendees at least. Many will be enquiring parents, new home schoolers and of course the veterans who have been home schooling for several years. The Legal and Assessment Issues will be hot topics of debate. Workshop titles include - Choosing a Curriculum, Getting Started, How children learn, The Father's Role, Disciplineand Motivation, Special Needs Children, Handling Stress, Benefits of Homeschooling, Tips to Teach your own children, Support Groups, Maths and Entrepeneurship, Music, Art & Drama, Creative Writing, Support Groups, Field Trips, etc. The conference will be at Pinetek, 42 Bamboo Lane, Pinetown. Starting at 8:30 am to 4:00 pm - followed by a social braai and fun activities. Entrance fee is R40 per person or R60 per family.(KZNHSA members are half price - those wanting to become members can join at the door). For more information call Pierre Basson on 0834605958. Last year this event drew over 200 homeschooling families from all over the province. In this year alone there have been major stories on home education in the Sunday Tribune, Mercury, Living & Loving, Edgars Club magazine. We invite you to attend this high interest topic of alternatives in education, especially in the midst of the current education crises. Guesstimates of home schoolers in this province are between 600 and 900 families, (over 6000 nationally) with tremendous interest from parents considering their education alternatives for the new school year. Home education is an alternative worth looking at. Workshop tracks have been specifically chosen to cater to wannabees, newbees as well as veterans.
